All About 1D
1D is a place where learning comes to life! We work hard, play hard, and learn by exploring the world around us.
Our Class Rules1. We are a team.
2. We always do our best. 3. We are respectful and kind. 4. We help each other learn. 5. We always use our manners. 6. We walk like adults in the hall. 7. We make safe choices. 8. We freeze in silly poses (when the announcements come on or Ms. D. is giving directions). |

Homework
In first grade, we require at least 20 minutes of reading EVERY night. Your child should be bringing home his/her book baggie every day with several books at his/her "just right" level. Make sure these books come back to school each day!
Please record the number of minutes your child reads on the power reading chart.
I am a firm believer that reading should be ENJOYABLE! Use silly voices, read in comfy places, and even try reading the book backwards! If reading at home is a struggle for your child, please talk to me and we will brainstorm some ideas!
Some nights, we will also have a math Home Link assignment. These should only take 5-10 minutes to complete. If you have any questions on the home link, please let me know!

All About Ms. D.
Since my first day of Kindergarten, I knew I wanted to be a teacher. After graduating from Waseca High School in 2008, I went to Waldorf College in Forest City, IA. In 2012. I graduated with a B.S. in Elementary Education with endorsements in K-8 reading and mathematics. In 2018, I obtained my Master's in Education from Southwest Minnesota State University.
This is my eighth year teaching first grade here at Wilson Elementary, and I absolutely love it! Teaching is truly my passion in life, and I love to make learning fun! In first grade: I don't want your children to be fast readers. I want them to enjoy reading. I don't want your children to know all the answers. I want them to know how to ask questions. I don't want your students to just get high scores on tests. I want them to learn to think deeply and be curious, lifelong learners. In my free time, I love to bake, draw, ride bike, go for walks, and relax with a cup of cocoa and a great book. I am also an aunt to the cutest set of twins! |
